Steamboat Island Community Preschool
Steamboat Island Community Preschool is a private not-for-profit preschool located in the Steamboat Island area of Olympia, WA.
SICP is open to all families, you do not need to live in the Steamboat Island/Griffin School District.
SICP recognizes that each child grows and develops at their own pace. We seek to support their individual development in an atmosphere where children can explore their environment and the world around them through Reggio inspired play based learning.
Our school embraces the philosophy that early childhood should be a time of fun, exploration and discovery. Our goal is to provide a balanced preschool program for the whole child, by providing opportunities and activities that will nurture children’s physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development.
Enrollment is now open for the 2025-2026 school year!

WHAT IS A COMMUNITY PRESCHOOL?
Our community preschool is a parent ran school that works in partnership with the teachers and community to ensure the children are getting an education that takes into account the whole child! While we do not require you to volunteer, we do have an open door policy that allows for parents to be in the classroom as much as they would like to be. This preschool is owned by the board, which is made up of some of the current parents of the children that attend our school.
SICP’S 6 CORE VALUES
COMMUNITY
One of the biggest corner stones at SICP is our strong connection to the community. What better way to foster those relationships than through the families in our preschool!
SMALL CLASS SIZES
Small class sizes allows our Teachers to build a strong relationships with each student. At SICP you will find a teacher to student ration of 12:2 or 10:2 with more focus on 1:1 attention.
CHILD LED EDUCATION
We want your child to show us how their brain works and learns, that helps us develop curriculum that is relevant to the day to day lives of the children in the class!
PLAY BASED
This is how self-esteem is built, confidence, growth mindset, problem solving, and most importantly a real passion for learning that carries with them for the rest of their life!
SAFE PLACE
Our small class sizes allow relationships to develop for open conversations about things your child is struggling with and partnering to develop best approaches to getting special individual needs addressed.
FAMILIES
We encourage families to be involved as much or as little as they would like. Classes have an open door policy allowing parents/caregivers the opportunity to observe any time they want!
